The Tower of Babel

So Chris asked this question (this is not a rebuttle post, Chris, just that it's too long to write in ur comment box) :

"However, I still do not comprehend the Biblical story of Babel completely. Did the people have a means to build a tower to heaven? If not, why did God cause the construction to stop? Or was confounding meant to stop the people from trying to reach an unattainable goal which they surely would have strived for had they the means to. So this unrest caused by miscommunication is alright? As in, God planned for this?"


God's word is very clear that there can be no way to heaven except by faith in God (Lord Jesus Christ). Even in the Old Testament, all sorts of sacrifice that the Israelites were told to do were pointing to the Lord Jesus. God is very clear on that.

Gen 9:7 - "And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein."

Gen 11:4 - "And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth."

Note in 9:7, Noah's decendents are told to multiply and fill the earth. Note 11:4, the people said, "lest we be scattered". The decendents have sinned in wanting to contradict what God told them to do.

Note "let us make us a name". The building of Babel to reach heaven is NOT out of a desire to SEEK after God. Rather, it was out of ambition and pride, which the Lord HATES.

Also, as mentioned, their means to reach heaven is disobedient to the way in which they were told to do. Therefore, in the building of Babel, they have commited 3 great sins so far as we see.

God's plan for the people is to spread throughout the earth. Men may do things to hinder God, but God will somehow be able to bring His plans to pass. For whatsoever God said, it shall happen. The decendents of Noah chose not to obey, so God achieves His plan by dividing their tongue. As a punishment, this is also justified fully (not that God has to justify His actions to us).

Lappy spoiled...

...last week. Brought it to Acer service centre, turned out the problem is with one of my Ram and one of the two ram slots. To replace it'll be $550...! So I didn't. Now the lappy is working with 1 ram (slower) on the good ram slot. Don't know when it will spoil again... :( Don't spoil, lappy, you're too expensive for me to repair you... :(

So I reformatted my lappy, and now it seems like I have to start everything all over. All my previous links that I saved under "Favourites" are gone. Some of my friends' blog adds are gone. Thankfully I can save my files first. But still, the sense of lost is still there.

But well, Lappy can start a new life. Hehe!

Recently attended a conference by Doc Bob Jones III and Doc Stephen Jones, Chancellor and President of Bob Jones University, the fundamental Christian University in South Carolina. Wonderful messages. I hope I'll not be lazy and post the messages notes up soon. :) Meanwhile, you can download Dr Bob Jones and Dr Stephen Jones' messages and listen to them. For some reasons I wish to be in Bob Jones Uni studying. They have so many courses Singapore don't have. And better, it's a Christian University. Hehe. But nevermind, I'll be content with NUS. Afterall, God gave that to me for a reason. :)
